THE SWARM STORY
Swarm Strategy was founded in June 2020 by Bryce J. Celotto — longtime policy advocate, educator, facilitator and strategist. Swarm Strategy is a comprehensive consulting agency dedicated to advancing Justice, Equity, Diversity and Inclusion (JEDI) centered policies, practices, leadership principles and actionable support across organizations and companies. Swarm specializes in racial justice and equity, LGBTQ+ Inclusion and building practices for belonging, leadership development and centering the voices and lived experiences of people from historically marginalized communities.
The name Swarm is an homage to Bryce's home-town roots in Charlotte, North Carolina and specifically it is a nod to the city's NBA team — The Charlotte Hornets. Bryce regularly attended Charlotte Hornets games as a kid with his grandmother who was an usher at the old Charlotte Coliseum (and a die-hard Hornets fan). Charlotte has a deep history of its people fighting back against injustice and advocating for freedom in the face of oppression — in fact the Charlotte Hornets themselves are named after Charlotteans fierce resistance to British occupation during the Revolutionary War. The British commander, Lord Cornwallis, referred to the resistance in Charlotte as "a veritable hornet's nest of rebellion".
Bryce always felt a connection with the historical nature of the team's name, and the story behind it. At Swarm, Bryce uses this history and energy to continue challenging the status quo of complacency, inequity, and injustice with the same fervor and ferocity as a Swarm of hornets. Swarm is about attacking the issues head-on while taking a collaborative, team-driven approach, similar to the approach taken by the Revolutionary people who defended Charlotte from the British.
